Cover Girl 'outlast' eyeliner

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Staying power:
7 out of 10
Colour: 8 out of 10
Purchase: $7.99 @ London Drugs

This stuff does not live up to its name! 'Outlast'?? Not really. It doesn't seem to last any longer than any other eyeliner I have tried (so far). I still think that the M.A.C. paint pot is the best long-lasting eyeliner out there. I also think you would have better luck with any liquid eye-liner.

Lip/cheek stain...

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain 01
Purchase: $14.99 @ The body shop
Coverage: 2 out of 10
Long Lasting: 3 out of 10

A friend of mine told me about this stuff and I have to say I don't love it. The lip colour barely goes on and does not last a very long time. When using it as a cheek stain, it doesn't seep in to the skin very well so basically does nothing. I haven't tried the other colour but I really wouldn't even bother.

HiP colour favourites continued...

I could not find pictures of the following eyeshadow duos but here are my reviews:

PERKY
new Matte shadow duo in light lime green and navy blue

Both these pigments transfer over beautifully. However, I do not like the combo of both these colours and prefer to use them separately.

PLATINUM
Metallic shadow Duo in silver and sparkly black

This is a GREAT smokey eye look! I used these two colours to create a dramatic eye for my graduation ceremony... I felt glamourous! The silver transfers over very thick and looks amazing! I also like using the black over top of regular black eyeliner for smudging.

GLIDED
New metallic shadow duo in dark gold and black/gold

I also love these two pigments! They kind of remind me of a leopard and I love giving myself the 'lioness' eye with these two shades.

FLARE
Bright shadow duo in light gold/tan and goldy/peach

Beautiful! This eyeshadow makes me feel like my eyes are like a sunset! The colours mix beautifully together and it is a great summer look because it doesn't look to over done but still very glamourous.

One of my favourite drugstore eyeshadow brands....

Tuesday, June 22, 2010
I have said before how much I love M.A.C. eye shadows... well I also have some favourite drugstore brands as well! The following is a review of the L'oreal's HiP high intensity pigments.

Purchase: $9.99 @ London Drugs, frequently on sale for $5.99

Reckless
This is my least favourite duo out of all the ones I own. The darker purple doesn't go on very well (at least not as well as most others do) but the lighter purple is very beautiful.

Riotous
These two colours are great! I have green eyes and so I love having tons of different shades of green. Both these shades go on very well and are full of long-lasting pigment! A great choice!

Adventurous
Despite the name, this is the least 'crazy' of the colour combos. This combo is great for a day look. Simple use the tan colour all over your lids and the pink on the outside edge and vuala! This is a great summer-time combo in my opinion and both colours go on wonderfully.

Flamboyant
The dark purple in this one is the same as the dark purple in Reckless and doesn't go on as well as the other colours. However, I love the gold/yellow colour! It goes on shimmery and thick!

The best budget product ever....

Introducing my favourite product:

St.Ives Medicated Apricot Scrub

Medicated Ingredients: 2% Salicylic Acid

I love this stuff! I use it all over my body for acne, exfoliation and it even helps stop ingrown hairs! It's amazing! It is made for the face but feel free to use it everywhere in the shower. This stuff usually goes on for $3.99 @ London Drugs (and you can prob find it for even cheaper) so I say this is a MUST have product!

Brilliantine

I loved this stuff so much I was afraid to use it all up! This stuff adds shine and if you put it on the ends of your hair it will add separation.

Defrizz

I also love this stuff! It helps keeps those fly-aways in place and give your hair that smooth silky look! Great for straight and curly hair.

Gentle Shampoo

For a gentle shampoo this stuff smells pretty potent! I don't love the smell of it but use it at least once a week.

Surf Spray

I have heard a lot of good things about surf spray but I an't say that I love the product. It does help you get that 'beachy' look when you mix it with other products but having it alone doesn't do too much for me. And for heaven sakes, make SURE you don't put it in damp hair then go out! I did that once and my hair became all frizzy and fluffy! Make sure to dry it first before going out in to humidity for sure. Like I said below, try to mix it with grooming cream or some other styling lotion and it will help hold the wavy look. It does give your hair a lot of texture which is nice so I like to spritz it more on my roots then my ends.

Creme do Coco Mask

I love the smell of this stuff! SO DELICIOUS! I use this once a week on my hair and sometimes more! It smells so delicious and leaves my hair feeling soft and nourished after. I definitely suggest this stuff to anyone with dry damaged or curly hair. I personally have fine colour-treated hair and it isn't too heavy for me.

Tonic Spray Lotion

I love this stuff as well! It works great to refresh your hair especially when camping/away from home! I also like to mix a bit of it with water in a separate container which I use when i am trying to re-saturate hair in order to re-scrunch lifeless waves. I use this first when I am styling my hair, it helps de-tangle and gives the product something to hold on to. It also gives a fresh tingly feeling on your scalp to help relieve itching etc. from hair that hasn't been washed in a few days.

Spray de Mode

This hair spray is amazing. It doesn't go on sticky at all! It also comes in a huge spray can so it lasts forever! Great stuff if you ask me!

More Reviews to come on Bumble and Bumble!!

A Bumble obsession...

Friday, June 18, 2010
I have been in love with Bumble and Bumble products for years. I have been going to the same hair salon for around 8 years and love the products. Here are a few of the products I personally own. I can't honestly rate these products well but I will explain why I like them/how I use them (but if you want to rate them feel free to leave comments!):

Bumble and Bumble Styling Spray

Purchase: At Hive Hair Lounge downtown victoria or at the hair salon in Hillside mall by the CIBC entrance OR at Shampoo hair bar

I usually spray this in my wet hair after I have towel dryed it and before I use a hair dryer or let it dry naturally. I love this especially for my bangs because then I don't have to add any firming or greasy residue after (with hair spray or shine spray). This is basically like putting hairspray in your hair when it is wet instead of when it is dry. If you want to get that 'messy beach hair look' you can put this in when wet, hand scrunch and let air dry or dry with a defuser. It also protects your hair from heat (your hair dryer/straightener/curler).

Bumble and bumble curl conscious holding foam

I didn't love this product at all. My hair dresser, Kat at Stella Hair salon in Vic, let me know that it wasn't her favourite but I should try it out. I felt like it didn't do much to help my hair curl (I have fairly straight hair unless it gets long then my wave starts arund my chin area). So if you don't have naturally curly hair I would not suggest this to help you get the curl you want.

Hair Powder (white)

I love this stuff but am afraid to use it because it is SO expensive! I usually spray it on my bangs to keep them from becoming greasy at the bar/on hot days. You can also add the coloured sprays to your roots to cover the colour or to help absorb any oil. This is a great product to bring with you on vacation! If you are camping and don't get to shower as often as you'd like, add it in! OR if you are somewhere hot where it is humid and your hair is getting greasy from the heat spray it in and vuala!

Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme

I like to put this stuff in my hair to give it a bit of a 'clumping' look. Basically I'll run it through damp hair and it helps a bit with fly aways and kind of helps chunk my hair up a bit so it's not just all straight and fly aways. I also have a bumble and bumble 'how to' thing that says you should use it before using the beach spray and it will help give you that "just got out of the ocean" look when your hair is a bit frizzy, waivy and 'clumpy'... if you know what I mean.

I have a lot more but will post later about them!! I will also post the Bumble and Bumble receipe cards later so you know how to mix product and get that look you want!!

"Bunk" Acne products...

Thursday, June 10, 2010
I am usually a big fan of the Neutrogena line but the following two products completely irritated my skin:

Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser

This cleanser made my forehead break out in to tiny little pimple-like bumps (they were not red though) and it took about a week for them to go away. I tried this stuff again a few years later and the exact same thing happened. Therefore, if you have sensitive skin, I would steer clear of this stuff! YUCK!

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Gel

Now the packaging is different from when I tried it out about 2 years ago so I'm not sure if it is the same formula but this stuff sucked! It burned my skin AND the blemish did not go away. I have had way better/faster results with the Spectro Acne Gel Benzoyl Paroxide 5% or the Clean and Clear Benzoyl Paroxide. So if anyone has tried this and likes it please comment below and let me know how it went for you! But so far- No thanx!

I hope this helps some of you save on some cash!!

Mascara...

Thursday, June 3, 2010
If you are like me, you know that having gorgeous eyelashes is a part of having a gorgeous face.... unfortunately, I have very thin long blonde lashes that disappear when I put on my eye makeup. Here are my favourite mascaras:

Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara

Volumizing effect: 7 out of 10
Lengthening effect: 8.5 out of 10
Definition: 10 out of 10
Purchase: $19 US @ Sephora

I loved this stuff! Even after having it for over three months it still does not clump! Amazing! I am usually looking for a volumizing mascara because I already have long eyelashes. This stuff is great though and it gives me great definition and colour. Unfortunately, it is pretty pricey stuff :(

Sephora Collection Lash Plumper Mascara

Volumizing effect: 8 out of 10
Lengthening effect: 8.5 out of 10
Definition: 10 out of 10
Purchase: $14 US @ Sephora

After comparing both this and the DNA mascara I realized this does the exact same thing for less! It is great stuff! No clumping! However, I have found better volumizing mascaras in the past (will comment on later) but it definitely gives me long, defined, dramatic lashes.
